It was a late Thursday afternoon, when Kelly El, from Major NYC, send me an email
".... Robert is in London for another 2 days and i would really like it if you photographed him..." I was immediately alerted by the idea and intrigued to meet the incredible Mr. Evans.
I set the plan in motion, and somehow managed to get a basic set up ready for the shoot.
It was a cloudy summer's day, and i was hopping that it wouldn't rain as we were to shoot on my roof against the sky... Rob, arrived on time... he was charming, down to earth and very sick... literally, with a stomach bug.... the thing with fashion is... you can't really take the day of... unless you are calling from the operating table.
We started the shoot, and the sky was getting darker with every capture... We had to stop several times and cover everything with plastic liners as it was getting too wet... Eventually, after being drenched, we had enough material for the story.... the result, titled as "The Guardian" is featured in Schon! 13.
With the release of Schon! 13, I decided to contact Rob and see what he is been up to...
-Hi Robert, how are?
i’m all good thank you.
-What have you been up to recently?
not a lot really its a bit slow when I’m in London.. Now i am on my way to NYC
-How did it all start?
a photographer spotted me in my boxing gym and said that i should become a model.I put it off for about 5 months cuz I didn’t really wanna be one, but he kept going on and on till i finally did it.
2 days later, a casting director in London saw my pics on the photographer’s website and said to him “i wanna meet this kid..” so i met with her and she informed me that Bruce Weber was coming the next day to shoot the A/F campaign and that she wanted me to meet him..., and so I did.
Bruce liked me and asked me if I would ever go to NYC...i was like “yeah for sure but i don't have a passport”, so he gave me his contact details to get in touch with him as soon as i sorted my travel documents out.
Then Givenchy got in contact and requested me as an exclusive for their show but i still hadn't got my passport and they said “the show is in a week so let us know when you get it..”
I rang them up the day before the show and said that i still didn’t have my passport so they cancelled me... Around midnight of the same day they called me back and said that they had arranged with the French Embassy and authorities to allow me to visit Paris for 24 hours in order to do the show.
I finally got there 5 hours b4 the show and that’s why if you watch the Givenchy S/S 11 I’m in tiger-print shorts, simply because they didn't have anything or any time to make clothes that fitted me.
After the show, a lot of agencies in NYC were interested to represent me. Bruce had already told Major about me and they did e-mail me saying that as soon as i got my passport, they would like to bring me over....
and so as soon as i got it..... that's wot happened....

-You've had quite an amazing year, with CK and Givenchy, what have you learned from these experiences?
.. these experiences have taught me just how important fashion really is, you don't know the impact or time put into it until you are part of that world...
- You've also worked alongside, some major female models... who has been your favorite?
um Lara Stone, i would say she is really cool and humble for the rep the girl has...
-What tunes are you listening to at the moment?
.. I’m listening to Kanye’s new album at the minute...
-What's your favorite cocktail?
... i don't really drink cocktails.
-What's your favorite scent?
...CK one off course..ahaa come on man.
-3 items you would take to a desert island?
...umm camera, swiss army knife, ahaa and a tent i guess..
